Early English Arts & Crafts Revival
at the Shawangunks
GARDINER, NY
A true hidden treasure. Discovering the path that led to the creation of this early Hudson Valley Arts & Crafts revival was almost as fun as seeing it fully realized.
Built on the former foundation of an early 1980s spec home, the real challenge was to envision a home worthy of the spectacular site. Set on five acres of verdant rolling ridges and tucked under the Shawangunk escarpment, this house took its design cues from the owner's beloved collection of handmade artisanal glassware. Newly framed vistas, with an abundance of light and hand-crafted detailing, made this house a home and worthy of care for future generations.
The exterior building envelope boasts a 50 year “minimal maintenance” exterior with a super-insulated shell (R-40 walls, R-60 roof), whole house geothermal heating and cooling, recycled hand-hewn beams, state-of-the-art kitchen, recessed lighting and more!
Note these special features:
Hand-carved oak paneled front door
Soaring glass bay window in the living room
Full masonry fireplace with RC gas log insert
